Apple crumble

Serves 4

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 100g poly- or mono-unsaturated margarine
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup chopped almonds, walnuts or hazelnuts (optional)
  • 1 x 800g can apple
  • ½ cup sultanas (optional)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C
  2. Combine the flour, sugar, butter and oats in a bowl
  3. Use your fingertips to rub the margarine into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs and then stir in the nuts
  4. Spoon the apple into a 1.5L (6-cup) capacity ovenproof dish and sprinkle over sultanas
  5. Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the apples
  6. Bake in oven until golden (approx. 20-25 mins)
  7. Serve with reduced fat custard
