Como Public School are looking for a new Manager of their school-run canteen!

The Canteen Manager is responsible for the profitable management and operation of Como Public School canteen. The canteen operates 2 days a week (Monday and Tuesday), offering staff and students a delicious and healthy menu.

The Canteen Manager will be responsible for:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the canteen.
  • Supervising volunteers.
  • Management of the online lunch order service.
  • Pricing menu items.
  • Managing and rotating stock, including preparation of term stocktakes.
  • Shopping for fresh produce.
  • Placing supplier orders on a regular basis.
  • Reconciliation of accounts.
  • Maintaining equipment, ensuring high levels of hygiene and safety are adhered to at all times.

The Canteen Manager will also ensure that the canteen service and operations comply with Food Handling regulations as well as the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy. The successful candidate will be willing to share new ideas, have an ability to maintain a cooperative working environment and provide a friendly, customer-focused service to students and staff within our school community. They must be passionate about food and be willing to provide a healthy, colourful and enticing menu. The ideal candidate would bring a commitment to helping create healthy food foundations for the students of the school.

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory and/or management position in a successful retail food service business
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff, volunteers and members of the wider community
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy and Food Safety Standards
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a safe, nutritious and viable food service
  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise volunteers and create rosters
  • Demonstrated experience with food service operations such as ordering, purchasing, stock control, storage and wastage.
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage financial activities like budgets, pricing, costing and banking procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels (including volunteers) to achieve desired outcomes
  • High-level of initiative, with the ability to work autonomously and positively contribute as a staff member
  • Openness to new technology and processes, including training and improvement in skills to enhance performance in the position
  • Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to complete prior to employment)
  • Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC) number
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or hold a valid medical contraindication certificate  
  • First Aid certificate including anaphylaxis and asthma training (or willingness to complete prior to employment)

Hours: Monday 8:30am – 1:00pm and Tuesday 8:30am – 1:30pm during school terms.
