A detox diet is one that cuts out so-called ‘toxic’ foods, usually for a short space of time with the idea that your body will be cleansed of toxins. These diets often encourage fasting or severe restriction of food groups, which can be dangerous for any amount of time, especially when growing and in your teens.
These diets are unnecessary, because our bodies are natural detox-machines. Our kidneys, liver, lungs and immune system are working hard every second of the day to remove any toxins they come across.
