Coloured Eggs

Yields8 Servings

 8 eggs
2 cups hot water, plus cool water for saucepan
 4 tsp white vinegar
 2 tsp red food dye
 2 tsp blue food dye
 2 tsp green food dye
 2 tsp yellow food dye
Boiling the eggs
1

Place the eggs in the bottom of a saucepan (make sure none are sitting on top of another, otherwise you'll need a bigger pan).

2

Fill the pan with cold water. Aim for the water to reach approximately 1 inch above the eggs.

3

Place the saucepan on the stove and bring the water to a boil over high heat.

4

Once the water comes to a boil, place lid on pan and turn off the stove. Set a timer for 8 minutes.

5

Fill a large bowl with cold water.

6

Remove the eggs from the pan with a slotted spoon and place them in the cold water. This will prevent them from cooking further. Set aside to cool completely.

Dyeing the eggs
7

You will need a separate small bowl or cup for each colour of dye. In each bowl, add half a cup of hot water, 1 tsp white vinegar and 1 tsp food colouring.

8

Lower eggs into food colouring mixture using a metal spoon and leave for 1-5 minutes, depending on how dark you want your eggs.

9

Line your bench with paper towel and place a cooling rack on top. Remove eggs from coloured water using a metal spoon and place on cooling rack to dry completely.

10

Enjoy them straight away or pop them in the fridge for later!
